Red Tank Draw, Wet Beaver Creek (Bell Trail), Payson
3/21/08
Yesterday my mother and I did some birding and hiking in the Wet Beaver Creek area north of Camp Verde. It was amazing how warm the weather was today while hiking (especially with the sun beating down on us on a trail with little shade). Wet Beaver Creek is running really good (very deep in parts, rapids). On the way back to Mesa we went through Payson and stopped at the Green Valley Park. Also, currently the Beeline Hwy is closed above Sunflower due to the road buckling and landslides (apparently poor construction of the retaining walls). We went through there just as DPS was showing up to slow traffic down. I have never seen a road buckle like that before. Anyways, here are the sightings for each location:

Seems like Lucy's are a little late this year. Anyone have any earlier records?

The Vermillion Flycatchers at Montezuma Well also seem to be a little late this year. I hear they've been spotted in Cornville and Camp Verde already, but I have yet to see the pair that nest in the Well's picnic area.
