Wood Duck & Roadrunner at Picture Canyon
A male Wood Duck was seen flying with a group of Mallard in the marshy area above Picture Canyon on Saturday. The canyon was really enjoyable in the early morning. We found many Townsend Solitaire and even more American Robin. A walk down to the Townsend-Winona end of the canyon produced a group of Red Crossbill.

As we were leaving, a Roadrunner appeared in the same location as the Wood Duck (near the eternal flame at the gasworks), so that was icing on the cake.

This was only the 3rd time I've seen Wood Duck above the rim in my 18 years here.
Cheers
Tom

Good find, Tom. Love those woodies! Two years ago the Page CBC had a male wood duck that had been seen around the marina on Lake Powell for a few days. I've only seen one wood duck above the rim (female with white eye ring, crest) on the Frances Short Pond by Thorpe Park in west Flag several years ago. She spooked quickly leaving with the typical whistling alarm call.
