TX Smith's Longspurs
12/30/2011
Today my mom and I tried for the Smith's Longspurs that were being reported near Highlands Reservoir in east Houston. We went across the ag. fields to where we saw birders with scopes and within a few minutes located our lifer SMITH'S LONGSPUR! We proceeded to watch another one nearby, both birds within 10-15 feet of us! Another bird flushed with them, bringing the total to three birds (I think as many as six have been reported by others on the TX listserve).

Below are photos of the Smith's Longspurs:

Good birding!!!
