Dusky Grouse, Humphreys Trail
Hello, all. First post for me. On Tues. 9-25 I hiked several miles up the Humphreys Trail in search of dusky grouse. Had no luck earlier near the ski area, but I asked a lot of hikers if they'd seen grouse and kept hearing "at least 3 miles," so on Tuesday I went for it. They were right. 3-4 miles up, just past the second big rockslide (about 2 hrs of walking, with several stops), I found 6-8 birds on the edge of a grassy slope. Most weren't shy--they just backed off about 10 feet or more and watched me watching them for several minutes. Photo attached.
