Nesting ravens and kestrels, Clear Creek
Clear Creek Campground area. Ravens began incubating 3/13 behind the little camping loop. On 3/7 I listed kestrels as "occupied nest", but on 3/13 they were hanging out in the top of a tree most of the afternoon, copulating several times. Their nest cavity entrance points up so I guess the all day cold rain on the 8th caused them problems thru flooding or hypothermia. Hopefully they pick a better cavity to continue.

I have observed kestrels copulating regularly for over a month before finally laying eggs and commencing incubation, so this may just be a part of their pair-bonding and site selection process.
