Post-Nesting Dispersal: Recent Yardbirds
These past two days we've had a Plumbeous Vireo, a Black-throated Gray Warbler and 2 Virginia's Warblers in our Swiss Manor yard; these haven't been seen here since Spring migration. More unexpected was a Red-breasted Nuthatch this morning (although we did have one in the yard this past winter through May 11).

The past week we've also had Lazuli Bunting and Band-tailed Pigeon show up here, joining the more regular White-winged Doves, Black-headed Grosbeaks, Western Tanagers, Bullock's Orioles and others.

A question about Plumbeous Vireo vocalizations: the only reason we became aware of the bird was that we heard an odd vocalization that was repeated at about 30-second intervals. The call was loud, low, and buzzy-sounding, lasting a second or two. Kinda like "BAAAAAK." My 1st thought was a fledgling begging/location call from a medium-sized bird.
The vireo never sang, but actively fed in various trees while repeating the call. We awoke the next morning hearing the same call for 5-10 minutes. I did some research on-line and in my reference books, but never came across a mention of that call. Anyone ever hear it or know about it?

Perhaps that was the scold note of the vireo?
The scold note sounds pretty weird.
