Birds on the Peaks
We went on a family hike today up Humphrey's Peak in the unusually warm November weather. Conditions on the high mountains were ideal - warm sun, light breeze, not much snow on the ground, and few people.

Birds were few and far between. I saw two American Three-Toed Woodpeckers on the ascent, along with many vocal Red-breasted Nuthatches, Brown Creepers, Mountain Chickadees, Juncos, and 2 Clark's Nutcrackers. Finches were notably absent - I didn't detect ANY - no siskins, crossbills, Cassin's finches, grosbeaks, rosy-finches (I had a bit of a fantasy that they would be waiting for me on the high slopes above treeline) or anything else from the back of the field guide.

Why no rosy-finches?
Why no rosy-finches?

Nice views!

A beautiful day up there!
