Tonto Creek Hatchery: American Dippers, Pacific Wrens
November 22, 2015
Highlights from a visit to Tonto Creek Fish Hatchery east of Payson (Gila County) today included at least two (possibly three) AMERICAN DIPPERS and two PACIFIC WRENS along the creek near the parking lot. An adult BALD EAGLE, a RED-NAPED SAPSUCKER, GOLDEN-CROWNED KINGLETS, and two SONG SPARROWS were among the other species present.

Earlier in the morning we hiked part-way up the Horton Creek Trail from the confluence with Tonto Creek, highlights including two RED-NAPED SAPSUCKERS, a few flocks of MEXICAN JAYS, a small flock of 5+ RED-BREASTED NUTHATCHES, several BROWN CREEPERS, and dozens of DARK-EYED JUNCOS (mostly 'Red-backed' form, along with 'Oregon' and 'Pink-sided').

Good birding!
