Northern Pygmy-owl
I made a quick run this morning to the Oak Creek Overlook on 89A south of town. Red Crossbill had been reported there recently and I was hoping to locate some. There was a flock of Pygmy Nuthatch being very vocal and acting agitated in a small ponderosa just across the path from the tables (third table up from the south end) where Native American jewelry is sold. A Northern Pygmy-owl was sitting maybe 20' up in the tree and doing it's best to ignore the angry flock. It became quite vocal. I watched it for close to 10 minutes. The people just below it on the path didn't seem to bother it a bit. I heard it calling farther to the north as I was leaving.
