Page Springs - Brown Thrasher & Pacific Wren
Wanting to enjoy some warm weather before the winter storm later this weekend I headed to Page Springs in the mid-morning today, 29 January. I was surprised how little bird vocalization I heard but it was still somewhat birdy. The same ducks and approximate numbers mentioned in previous posts were present at the ponds on the Bubbling Springs side of the creek. There was a calling Pacific Wren amongst the shrubs and tangled trees at the north end of one of the center overgrown pond cells that is full of cattails. A Virginia Rail was also heard here. I found the (presumed) previously reported Brown Thrasher along the Black Hawk Trail. This bird was roughly due west of the amphitheater in the fairly dense line of trees along the white fence marking the boundary of the hatchery property. There were several Spotted Towhees scratching in the leaf litter here as well. At the hatchery on the east side of the creek there were the expected species and an Orange-crowned Warbler.

RE: Page Springs - Brown Thrasher & Pacific Wren
Chrissy Kondrat-Smith and I spent the early part of this afternoon at Page Springs Fish Hatchery and Bubbling Ponds today. We tried briefly for the black and white warbler, but were unsuccessful. On the Black Hawk Trail, we relocated the brown thrasher in approximately the same location as John described (dense vegetation along the white fence approximately due west of the ampitheater) and also slightly north. Given the time of day, it was relatively quiet, but a few of the usual suspects were hanging around.

RE: Page Springs - Brown Thrasher & Pacific Wren
I finally got some clear looks at the Brown Thrasher today, 2/7/16. I had about 2 seconds to get off a clear pic of it. I had to stalk it for about an hour in the thick brush, but it was worth it!

I also relocated the Slate-colored Junco.

Also, I had a question about a Sapsucker that I saw there. Unfortunately, I only was able to obtain 1 not so good pic (see Below).

It looks like a juvenile, so I just wanted to see if it might be a possible Yellow-bellied Sapsucker. I tried to relocate it (it was in the same general area as the Thrasher), but I was unable to find it.

It was another great morning of birding:

The thrasher is still there, as of 2/14. It took me three tries, but I found it! No luck on the black and white warbler.
