Elden Spring FOY Virginia's Warbler, singing Cassin's Finch
On a run by Elden Spring this morning I heard two singing Virginia's Warblers, my first of the year. A flyover red crossbill was also of interest because there have been so few around Flagstaff in recent months. Finally, I stopped for an unfamiliar song and was surprised to see a Cassin's Finch lustily belting out his complex and almost-wren-like tune. When I picked up running again I scattered a flock of 15-20 CAFI, which is a good count this year.
