Lower Elden Trail, east Flagstaff
At sunrise this morning, I walked up Elden Trail as far as the Fat Man’s Loop turn off with the goal of Black-chinned Sparrows. I did hear 2 separate birds sing briefly, but they dart away quickly and stay low in the mt. mahogany scrub. No good views this time. Fairly quiet overall. Spotted Towhee, Black-headed Grosbeak and Virginia’s Warbler were the most vocal. Also saw & heard Canyon Wren, Bluegray Gnatcatcher, Bush-Tit, Broad-tailed Hummingbirds, Scrub Jay and others. 14 species in all.

Some flowers are in their prime: Banana Yucca, Claret Cup (cactus) and a few short yet vibrant blue wild delphiniums.
