San Francisco Peak Hawk Passage
Yesterday afternoon my son and I took the lift to the top of Snowbowl in the San Francisco Peaks. It is a slow and spectacular ride, with the aspen just about to hit their peak.

Starting at about 10,500 feet we were treated to a stream of raptors flying north to south along the slopes of the Peaks. In a period of about 45 minutes I counted over 20 accipiters (about two-thirds Cooper's, one-third Sharpie), 2 Peregrine Falcons plus 1 unidentified falcon and 1 Golden Eagle. It's interesting that none of this activity was evident from the base of the ski area (where we spent time watching the end of a running race). We also didn't linger at the top, where bird activity was clearly the highest.

A fun and unexpected experience!
