Lots of shorebird activity east of Flagstaff
I drove out east on I-40 this morning and found a lot of migration activity. Of note is the fact that there are many spots that are attractive to shorebirds. All of Buffalo Range Road really deserves to be checked regularly as shorebirds migrate through. The stock ponds between the freeway and Raymond Ranch all are set up quite well to attract stopovers! I did not drive north to Reservation Tank, but it may be good too. Also, Tucker Flat Tank, which is just west of Winslow (but within Coconino County) has water and looks like it would attract birds. I haven't figured out the access though...

East-bound I-40 rest area near Meteor Crater:
1 Baird's Sandpiper
1 Killdeer

Borrow pit on the north side of Exit 245:
1 Solitary Sandpiper
5 Western Sandpipers
2 Least Sandpipers
1 Spotted Sandpipers
1 Sandpiper sp. that I'd like feedback on (likely Western...)

Mystery peep:

Western Sandpiper:

Meteor Crater RV Park:
Lots of birds, but also lots of happy campers, so I didn't stay long. 3 Willow Flycatchers, including one calling fitz-bew in the parking lot, were notable.

Babbitt Tank:
2 Ibis, presumably White-faced, but look how different they look in the picture!
3 Black-necked Stilts

Lute Hart Tank:
1 Baird's Sandpiper
1 Lesser Yellowlegs
5 Black-necked Stilts

Casner Tank:
1 Solitary Sandpiper

Raymand Ranch ponds:
2 Solitary Sandpipers
3 Spotted Sandpipers

Both Solitary Sandpipers:

The day total of 4 Solitary Sandpipers is pretty remarkable...this is not a species I encounter all that often around here! Also, there was a major movement of Bank Swallows this morning. I multiples at virtually every stop.

Finally, this Black-necked gartersnake at Raymond Ranch was pretty cool!
