Greater Scaup & Golden-crowned Kinglets at Rimmy Jim Tank, more GCKIs at Tappan
This morning I birded the Cameron area. One Rufous-backed Robin is still present at Cameron, with no new arrivals in the Courtyard.

At Rimmy Jim Tank (walk-in access only) there is an out-of-place Greater Scaup, my first in Coconino County away from the Colorado River. Pics are below, the round head with a peak in front of the eye, robust bill, and thick-necked look all favor Greater over Lesser. Opinions welcome. Also at Rimmy Jim were THREE Golden-crowned Kinglets, which I thought was pretty remarkable. Later I found yet another Golden-crowned Kinglet at Tappan Spring (also remarkable!).

At 11am this morning there was a Chestnut-sided Warbler in the courtyard of Cameron Trading Post. The Rufous-backed Robin was very cooperative. Also a single Evening Grosbeak.

That is amazing! I took two passes through the Courtyard, once from 8:00-8:20 and another an hour later... no Chestnut-sided Warbler or Grosbeak then!

I was there at 7, while still relatively dark and cloudy and missed it too.... at Lonely Dell the Harris's Sparrow and Red Fox Sparrow were both still present.

I owe Jason, Tom and Terry and big shout out. Got Tom's Harris Sparrow this morning at Meteor, Jason's scaup this afternoon at Rimmy Jim (the 3 of us would have missed it if we arrived 2 minutes later, literally - all ducks being chased away by a gorgeous pale Prairie Merlin) and Terry's Chestnut-sided at Cameron, all in obnoxious wind.

Hopefully some good stuff got blown in for my Ashurst field trip tomorrow.
Tom
