Walnut Canyon Lakes Dark Raptor
Early morning walk around Walnut Canyon Lakes today turned up these guys. The very gray Red-tail was next to the Osprey nest tree. The other was across the road SE of the ponds.
I assume the chest band gives the first away as just an unusually gray Red-tail, but is the other just a dark morph? Color is good for a Golden Eagle, but bill is way too small/short. Any ideas? Poss juv Ferruginous?

RE: Walnut Canyon Lakes Dark Raptor
Both of these birds feel pretty Red-tailed-y to me. The light-eyed one above looks like a juvenile light-morph. I'm less confident about the other (though I agree that the bill is much too small for eagle), but it has an RTHA gestalt.
