sedona american bittern
happy thanksgiving!
1. sam hough found an AMERICAN BITTERN in the open on the edge of the big pond at the sedona wetlands
2. we and others rushed out and the bittern was walking left along the rocks and eating tiny fish from 945 to at least 1125 and still there
2. if you are on the platform look to the far corner of the pond and scan to left as it was moving very slowly left (probably covered 100 feet in the 100 minutes we were there).
3. it is huge, but it blends very well.
4. odds of it being in this weird location tomorrow are near zero i would guess, but it seemed quite happy this morning.

the AMERICAN BITEERN that was at the sedona wetlands many hours on thursday was not there yesterday, but it is there today! from the platform look to the left and along the rocky shore. it has been there a couple hours and may stay the rest of the day as there are lots of little fish to eat.

1. amazingly the AMERICA BITTERN was there at least in afternoon yesterday according to 1 ebird report, and it is definitely there right now.
2. since they winter in se az, maybe this 1 thinks it has made it that far and will winter? of course we have not had the 1st cold snap yet.
3. anyway it seems like it could probably be there all day.
4. you will need a scope as it is usually all the way across the big pond.

the bittern has not been seen in 3 days so presumably gone, but an excellent cooperative bird! increased ducks today including goldeneyes. recent sightings of gulls and geese.
