sedona yard
1. holly kleindienst reported lots of virginia's & black-throated gray warblers at clear creek so i did another yard walk this afternoon and indeed there were 2 VIRGINIA'S WARBLERS!!! yard bird #155 - a long overdue yard bird that we did not get the last 6 springs. i know not exciting to anyone but us.
2. our 1st black-headed grosbeaks showed today and weird to see them on same feeder with evening grosbeaks - we still have about 10 of them.
3. cassin's finches and american goldfinches are dwindling down to a couple each, but still close to 10 audubon's yellowrumps.
4. summer tanagers, bullock's & hooded orioles, a chat, yellow warblers all here.
5. our house wrens chose a box on our back porch.
6. still trying for more yard birds - all are welcome to come here.

1. not exciting to anyone other than us, i got a black-throated gray warbler in the yard today for yard bird #156 - another overdue species.
2. i have now seen virginia's warbler 4 different days including today. so either 1 has hung around for over a week or others have arrived.
3. a bronzed cowbird has been here for 3rd year in a row.
4. and a male costa's hummingbird is being seen once in a while over 4 days now.

Nice yardbird, Rich! Several years ago Chuck LaRue had one in his yard around this time of year that stuck around for weeks, and even sang quite a bit. I wonder if this bird will behave similarly?

1. i actually came up and saw chuck's bird years ago.
2. but unlike chuck's, it looks like ours is gone.
3. folks came up from scottsdale and tried this morning and the bird has NOT been seen today at all despite lots of male and female great-tailed grackles, bronzed and brown-headed cowbirds, and red-winged blackbirds
4. personally i think it ate so incredibly much yesterday it bulked up and flew on, but who knows.
