Hepatic Tanager: Little Spring
I saw this odd colored Hepatic Tanager at Little Spring Today, 5/22/18. It stuck around all morning.

In certain light, it almost looked as yellow as a Western Tanager.

I assume this is some kind of molting going on?

Gary

RE: Hepatic Tanager: Little Spring
1st summer male Hepatics can have the same mottled plumage as a 1st summer Summer Tanager, though I've only seen it once on a Hepatic. That said, with that long bill and plenty of color in the auriculars, this looks like a Summer to me.

by the way.... it looks like Little Spring will be closing at a pretty inopportune time.... I was thinking the vagrant potential there over the next few weeks would be fantastic...

I agree. That is why I went to Little Spring two days this week, to see what is around before the forest closes.

I was not disappointed!

By the way, I changed that bird to Summer Tanager. Now that I think about it, its call sounded more like a Summer Tanager.

Shape/structure is much more SUTA than HETA too.
