Petrified Forest NP BioBlitz Aug. 25-26
Petrified Forest National Park (Apache and Navajo Counties) is hosting a BioBlitz on August 25-26.  The general format for the BioBlitz will be to have up to 25 small teams conducting survey excursions at Petrified Forest National Park to document as many species of every organism group possible between 0900 on August 25 and 0900 August 26. The teams will be formed around a subject matter expert (SME) and will contain supporting "Blitzers" (wildlife professionals, students, and enthusiasts who pre-register) as well as park visitors who sign up at the park. SMEs and Blitzers will be invited to arrive at the Park on Friday, August 24th, and camp in a centralized area (complete with welcoming campfire program) where they can base their activities until Sunday afternoon.

Would you be interested in being a SME? We still need SMEs for small mammals, large mammals, birds, terrestrial invertebrates, aquatic invertebrates, and plants.

If you or others you know might be able to help out surveying for birds or other organism groups, please contact Andy Bridges ( or Tiffany Sprague (
