Verde Valley Bird Festival field trip to Peck's Lake
I led a group of 15 birders into Peck's Lake today for the VVBF. We took a different route into the lake because the traditional (Spooky Mansion) entrance is being used as a depot for construction vehicles. I have done many xmas counts down there, so very warm spring birding was different for me.

My group really enjoyed the day, and the birds we found. I however was kind of disappointed with only 42 species. The water level is greatly reduced (dam break) and we didn't find any ducks except for a single, uncommon Ring-necked Duck. No reason to expect the occasional river otter there any more.

A single Gray Vireo (singing) was probably the best bird of the day.

Big things happening down there.

A fun day with a nice group of people.
