Smattering of migrants

Judi reports a flock (50+) of small shorebirds briefly grounded at Verde Santa Fe golf course during the storm today.
Two Hermit thrushes in the creosote in my yard this morning were certainly migrants.
A male Black-chinned Hummingbird at my feeder was my FOS here.
A (returning) White-throated Sparrow that arrived here on 12 NOV is still present this afternoon.

At Cave Springs this week:
Common Blackhawk 3/24
Painted Redstart 3/24, 3/28
House Wren 3/24, 3/28

A flock of about a dozen Red-breasted Nuthatches have been hanging around for the past couple of weeks. I am used to seeing one or two at a time, so this is the largest flock I have ever seen.

In my Flagstaff yard today I had my first of season Broad-tailed Hummingbird come to my feeder (which I put out yesterday).

Also, our neighborhood Turkey Vulture has returned, as well.

Gray Flycatcher today. Loads of swallows moving through.
A small group (7-8) of Canada Goose have been flying over the yard regularly for the last few weeks. I have yet to confirm breeding CAGO in the Verde (though it seems very likely).

A small group of Lazuli Bunting yesterday. Mockingbirds are spaced off at about ¼ mile intervals in habitat on the Cornville grasslands, which seems a lot more than most years. Foxtail is epic out there - it will be brutal to be off trail in a few weeks time.

A splendid crowd of alternate plumaged Yellow-rumped Warblers at Bubbling Ponds today included a male Myrtle Warbler in fine dress. Kildeer and Spotted Sandpiper foraged on the mudflats of a drained pond while many swallows (VGSW, NRWS) circulated overhead. Yellowthroats have arrived. A pair of confiding Canada Goose were extremely unusual there - I don't recall ever seeing this species at this location before.
A Western Kingbird was noted along 89A a few days ago.
At home in the yard a Cassin's Vireo was passing through, and the Bell's Vireo in my neighbor's yard continues to sing with apparently unrequited ardor from dawn til dusk for the second year running. He is persistent!

I had a first of season Female Broad-tailed Hummingbird in my Flagstaff yard today, 4/21/20.
For the past week or so I have had an on & off Female Cassin's Finch show up,

At Cave Springs this past week I had a FOS Plumbeous Vireo, Virginia's Warbler, and a Summer Tanager, and Bullock's Oriole. Grace's Warblers are moving in in greater numbers.

A lot of action in the yard this morning. 30 passerine species; including 7 warblers and 3 empids.
MacGillivrays, Virginia's, Dusky, Hammond's. Lazuli, Black-headed and Green-tailed. An entertaining assortment.
